Your consumer rights
These terms apply to our repairs, services and installations. They operate subject to applicable South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act. No term excludes a right, warranty or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where a term conflicts with mandatory law, that law takes precedence.
1. Workmanship & reporting concerns
We perform repairs, services and installations professionally and in good faith. Please notify us of any dissatisfaction within 48 hours of collecting your device so we can investigate and arrange correction. A delay may result in additional charges where further work falls outside our obligations. The 48-hour request does not shorten statutory warranty periods or remove your legal remedies.
2. Device risk & your data
Devices are booked in at the client’s risk to the extent permitted by law. Hardware and software repairs may carry a risk of data loss or damage, particularly where a device has existing faults. We may need to restore or format a device to complete the agreed repair. Back up your data before booking in and tell us about any data concerns. To the extent lawfully permitted, iWant Gadgets excludes liability for data loss and damage arising from repair risks. This does not exclude liability for gross negligence or any responsibility that the law does not allow us to exclude.
3. Replaced-parts warranty
Replaced parts carry a 6-month warranty from installation, except batteries and parts used in liquid-damaged devices. This additional warranty excludes damage caused by negligence, accidental damage such as dropping the device, misuse or tampering. Batteries are excluded from this additional 6-month cover, but applicable statutory rights remain. Statutory repair warranties, including applicable cover for installation labour, are not excluded.
4. Liquid-damaged devices
For liquid-damaged devices, a 3-month warranty applies to the specific replacement parts listed on the invoice. It does not amount to a warranty for the entire liquid-damaged device or unrelated faults. Applicable statutory warranties and installation-labour rights remain in force.
5. Non-transferable warranties
Our additional contractual repair warranties are issued to the original customer and are non-transferable, to the extent permitted by law. Please retain your invoice. This does not limit any statutory right.
6. Deposit for ordered repair parts
A 50% deposit is required before repair parts are ordered. The deposit is non-refundable to the extent permitted by law and as disclosed before you approve the order. Any lawful cancellation, refund or other mandatory consumer right takes precedence; a deposit will not be retained where the law requires its return.
7. Unrepairable devices
If a device cannot be fixed, a R100 consultation fee applies. This fee must be disclosed and agreed before the assessment begins.
8. DIY installation
iWant Gadgets is not responsible for damage or installation problems caused by a customer’s or third party’s DIY installation of parts or accessories sold separately. This does not exclude responsibility for a defective product or any other obligation imposed by law.
9. Uncollected devices
Please collect your device within 31 days after we notify you that it is ready. If it remains uncollected, iWant Gadgets may seek to recover outstanding expenses, including through a sale only where legally permitted and after any required further notices and legal process. The passage of 31 days alone does not automatically transfer ownership or authorise a sale.
